RCMP Warn People About New Email Virus

A new malware has shown up in Nova Scotia.

It’s called Cryptowall 4.0 and it spreads through e-mail attachments.

Once the attachment is opened, it encrypts your computer then offers to decrypt it for a fee.

Constable Mark Skinner with the RCMP says one Nova Scotia business has already been infected.

“People need to be aware of what they’re clicking on online, make sure you’re not opening emails with attachments from unknown sources and we certainly recommend that data is backed up regularly.”

If you receive a suspicious e-mail you should report it to the RCMP anti-fraud centre at http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm or by calling 1-888-495-8501.
