Holiday Season No Picnic For Pets

Keeping pets safe over the holidays requires a little extra attention.

Dr. Ted Scovil of the South Shore Veterinary Hospital says it’s important to be vigilant this time of year.

He says, while some dogs are more susceptible, chocolate is a real danger.

The worst chocolate is the dark. It’s more rich in the chocolate itself, which contains theobromine and caffeine. These can cause vomiting, gastrointestinal upsets all the way to neurological problems including seizures.”

Scovil says grapes and raisins are also toxic and cause kidney problems.

Milk bones or other dog treats are suggested for the family canine.
