The Municipality of Lunenburg is already beginning to hire for this fall’s municipal election
And, anyone applying to be the Returning Officer can expect a wage bump this year.
The position oversees the municipal election, making sure that all the details come together.
In 2012, the job paid around 18 dollars per hour.
Councillors felt the amount of work required wasn’t being reflected in the pay.
This year they’re offering just over 23 dollars per hour.
Mayor Don Downe says they hope the early start will help with changes like e-voting and fewer electoral districts.
They hope to have someone in place in the next few weeks.
