It’s a familiar tune for the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre.
The facility is forecasting a deficit around $808,000.
They’re $93,000 under projected revenue largely because membership is less than expected.
General Manager, Kevin Benjamin, says they’re striving to change that.
“Part of the mandate is to make sure that recreation we provide is affordable,” he says. “If we were to increase our rate, most of the residents in Lunenburg County wouldn’t be able to afford to use the facility.”
There are still four months before the end of the fiscal year.
Any deficit at that time will be split between the Town of Bridgewater and the Municipality of Lunenburg.
Meanwhile, Don Downe, Mayor for the Municipality of Lunenburg, says the LCLC has a lot to offer the community.
“It’s an asset that, I think, is worth the investment,” he says. “It’s an asset that needs to be managed properly. It’s an asset that needs to be conscious of the cost.”
Downe says they understand recreation programs cost money.
But, he adds they’re not willing to write a blank check.
