UPDATE: The owner initially did not believe any money was taken but has recently discovered money she was intending to donate to various community groups was taken.
Police are investigating after someone broke into a New Germany business last night.
Shelley Zinck, owner of New Germany Enviro Centre, discovered a rock, broken glass, and blood when she arrived to work around 8:40 this morning.
Zinck says someone made quite a mess but didn’t take much.
“I don’t know if they got spooked or left but they had gone through my office, they didn’t take anything valuable at all.”
Zinck says the person grabbed a pop and drank that while there and appears to have attempted to locate the keys to her safe but were unsuccessful.
She’s hoping someone comes forward with information on the person.
“(It’s) somebody of a small frame because of the way they squeezed into my office door, because my office door is a pocket door not a hinge door.”
She adds that the person likely cut their hands and she discovered discounted cigarettes on the scene as well.
Where the business does recycling refunds and exchanges, they carry cash but she says it will now be located offsite.
This is the first incident of this kind to occur at the centre, which has only been open since January.
RCMP have since left the scene but the business will be closed for the remainder of the day.
