Cohousing Project In The Works For Bridgewater

A Bridgewater couple are looking to bring their community closer.

Cate and Leon de Vreede are the driving force behind a co-housing development in the town.

Cate de Vreede explains the concept.

“When a group of people work together to create and maintain their own neighbourhood, essentially. It’s a type of community where private homes are clustered around shared space.”

de Vreede says each unit has all the amenities you would expect in a home.

But, they also have access to shared common areas such as a communal kitchen and dining area as well as outdoor green spaces.

She says the common spaces allow neighbours to really get to know each other.

de Vreede says co-housing is a very attractive proposition for her young family.

“It’s about increasing our quality of life by having quality social interaction, sharing things that make sense to share, while still having our own privacy and autonomy.”

A meeting on the project will be held 3:00pm September 29 at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre.

More information can be found on the Bridgewater Cohousing Website and Facebook pages.
