Atlantic Canadian MPs Make Themselves Heard In Ottawa

Prime Minister Trudeau says Atlantic Canadians don’t need to worry they didn’t elect an opposition MP in the last election.

Trudeau was asked the question while he was in Nova Scotia on Tuesday.

South Shore-St. Margarets MP Bernadette Jordan says the fact that the Liberals swept the Atlantic provinces has led to a greater voice for the region in Parliament.

“The new Atlantic Canada strategy did not come out of platform promise, it didn’t come out of an election, it came out of us talking and saying we need to have more going on in our rural areas.”

She says the red wave that swept the Atlantic provinces has made the region a stronger force in Ottawa.

“Honestly, we represent 20 per cent of the House of Commons right now- of the government I should say. So they hear us, they hear us loud and clear.”

Jordan says there are 32 MPs from Atlantic Canada in government right now.

And with numbers like that, they make themselves heard in Ottawa.
