Bridgewater: Mitchell Wins Mayoral Race Over Incumbent Walker, Ritcey

A changing of the guard in Bridgewater.

David Mitchell was elected as the town’s new mayor over David Walker and Greg Ritcey.

Mitchell served as councillor previously from 2004 until 2012 and had 1,348 votes compared to Walker’s 960 and Ritcey’s 222.

Mitchell says Walker has been like a mentor to him.

“He helped me on the path that I’m on today and his friendship has meant the world to me and that will continue for years to come.”

Mitchell adds that taxes are the number one issue with voters.

“We’re going to have to start with the very large challenge of trying to deal with taxes, which is not easy. Issues like public transit in the Town of Bridgewater and of course, youth retention.”

Bridgewater also elected a new councillor in former school board member Cheryl Fougere while five incumbents held their seat.

The new council is expected to be sworn-in on November 7.
