Rural Internet Getting $6.5-Million Boost From Eastlink

High speed Internet and advanced fibre-op service is coming to more communities in rural Nova Scotia.

Eastlink has announced a $6.5-million investment.

CEO Lee Bragg says construction is underway to build elements of the network.

He says they’re targeting between six and 12 months to be up and running.

“We don’t have 100 percent of the final design details done so it’s hard to pinpoint exactly on a week-by-week basis what areas of the network come on when.”

Bragg says $5.5-million will upgrade fibre-op in West Pubnico, Guysborough, and throughout Cape Breton.

The other $1-million will upgrade about 1,000 existing Rural Broadband customers in Greenfield, Kemptville in Yarmouth County, and Margaretsville in Annapolis.

More communities will be announced in six to eight weeks.
