Lunenburg Municipality And Bridgewater To Run LCLC

Management of the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre now lies in the hands of the Town of Bridgewater and the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg.

In a joint, in-camera meeting last night, the councils moved to assume responsibility of the centre.

Both municipal units will have three elected representatives on the management board.

And both will integrate their recreation departments with the LCLC.

Bridgewater Mayor David Mitchell, says the model will cost less and provide better programming.

“If we’re offering the same program as the LCLC and MODL and you’re hiring full staff compliment at every location, you’ve got some overlaps. We do anticipate it will cost less to provide better recreation through this.”

MODL Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson says this is a positive change for taxpayers.

“I think this is good for our residents throughout Lunenburg County. I see this as reducing redundancies and improving efficiencies. There’s duplication of services now and this will definitely help.”

Day to day management of LCLC will be managed by MODL’s director of recreation, which means Kevin Benjamin will no longer be the facility’s general manager.
