The vote for the Region of Queens’ deputy mayor ended in gridlock last night.
Every two years council nominates and votes on a deputy mayor.
Mayor David Dagley says councillors Jack Fancy and Heather Kelly were nominated at the October 9 council meeting.
“We had secret ballot votes and with those we had a tie four-four on each occasion so we’ve determined we will revisit that deputy-mayor appointment,” says Dagley.
He says it seemed councillors were quite set in their choices, which is why they decided to try again at a later date.
Councillors will once again nominate one of their own and vote at their October 23 meeting.
District 4 councillor Susan MacLeod has been deputy mayor since just after the 2016 municipal election.
