Significantly less people lost their lives on the water this year in Nova Scotia.
The Department of Justice says 14 people drowned this summer, that’s down from 22 last year.
Dan Bedell from the Red Cross says their glad to see overall numbers going down but it isn’t all good news.
He says unlike last year two children lost their lives in back yard pools.
“This region can go years without having a single child die in a backyard pool. So to have two children drown in one year is quite alarming to us.”
Bedell says most municipalities have laws about putting a fence around even large inflatable pools to protect the most vulnerable.
