Region Of Queens Ends 2016/17 With A Surplus

Region of Queens Municipality is operating in the black this year.

Council recently approved their audited statements for the 2016/17 fiscal year and were pleased to learn the municipality ended with a $236 thousand dollars surplus.

Mayor David Dagley says they take their responsibility to their citizens to heart.

“We’re being very frugal with taxpayers dollars and we are managing it to the best of our ability and to the approval of our auditors.”

Dagley says the money they get from deed transfer tax was up this year and is responsible for the larger than expected surplus.

He says that surplus will be used as rainy day money.

“That money is set aside. Then we can dip into this reserve to utilize for an item that we have not budgeted. And we do that on a yearly basis for small needs throughout the year.”

He says the surplus is the result of prudent planning and careful budgeting.
