Table That Took A Walk Finds Its Way Home

An accidental theft has put a smile on a local bookseller’s face.

Michael Higgins, owner of Lunenburg Bound was making space to accommodate about fifty people who had come to hear author Ami McKay’s presentation Saturday night.

Higgins moved a coffee table to the sidewalk, as he has done before.

But when he went to bring it in, discovered it was missing.

“Yeah, it was a great night. And then obviously it was a bit of a funny bump at the end when the coffee table was gone. But all’s well that end’s well.”

Higgins assumed someone thought the table was free to take.

His friends suggested he post about his experience on Facebook.

He did, and later that evening, the table was returned.

Higgins has a sense of humour about the whole incident.

“It says a lot of good things about Lunenburg. It says people are keen to recycle, it seems to me that when they found out that it wasn’t put out for recycling they brought it back home and did the right thing. It was pretty fun.”

He says he doesn’t need to know who took the coffee table, calling it a great little mystery.

And quoting songwriter Joel Plaskett, Higgins added, “There’s a reason that I love this town.”
