Lake Access Causes More Controversy

After decades of asking, people in Lunenburg County are one step closer to having access to Sherbrooke Lake.

The Municipality of Lunenburg announced this morning they’ve purchased two parcels of land that have a total of 550 feet of water frontage.

Mayor Don Downe says this is a big leap forward.

“It’s something that’s been looked at and talked about and trying to be dealt with for 25 or 30 years,” he says, “and we’re happy to finally have the land to be able to go forward with that.”

The land cost a little more than $250,000 dollars.

Downe says a park will be developed there.

But he says the design and cost will have to be determined by the new council after the election.

Meanwhile, the wasn’t good news in the Municipality of Chester.

Warden Allen Webber says since the land is within their municipality they should have been included in the decision.

He says the fact that they weren’t is very disappointing.

“I guess I’m a big enough as a person to know that I have to continue to maintain a good working relationship with them, and it would be my intention to do so,” he says. “But, you know, they made a terrible mistake by not consulting us first.”

Downe says it is the intention of MODL Council to work with the Municipality of Chester as they move forward with the project.
