It’s sailing season may be about to end but Bluenose will still be on view at Lunenburg town hall.
Council received a scale model of the famous schooner at their last meeting.
Mayor Rachel Bailey accepted the schooner on behalf of the town from builder Robert Schmeisser.
Bailey says when speaking with Schmeisser about the build you really get an appreciation for the effort that goes into a project like this.
“And it’s all hand-done as he says, except for the little bit of chain and anchor and his wife makes the sails. We’re very pleased to have accepted that gift from him to the town.”
Schmeisser even managed to use timber from Bluenose II on the deck of his replica.
He had already made several for his family and thought it would be appropriate for the town to have one as well.

Mayor Rachel Bailey says she was pleased to accept the gift on behalf of the town and wants everyone to be able to share it.
“So whether it will be hung or sat somewhere prominently in town hall we’re not sure but hopefully it will be in a place where lots of people can enjoy it.”
Bailey says the town will need to have a display case built to protect the model before it is open to view.
