Chester Official Heading To National Women’s Under-18 Hockey Championship

A 21 year-old from Chester will enforce the rules of hockey at the national level.

Morgan Greek has been chosen as an on-ice official for next month’s Canadian Women’s Under-18 hockey championship in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Greek, who is in her 10th year as an official, says it’s the next step in her progression as a referee.

She never thought she would make it to this point.

“For the first five or six years of my refereeing career I would say I never even saw a girls game because there wasn’t any in the area for me to do so I was doing mostly boys hockey.”

Greek says the opportunity for female officials is exciting and looks forward to the upcoming challenge.

She adds, it will be a nerve-racking but exciting opportunity.

“When you’re officiating at a national level like that you’re supervised every single game and all of your game selections are based on your supervision and your performance in the previous games.”

She also officiated last year’s Canada Winter Games.

Greek says her goal is to one day referee a World tournament.

She heads to Regina to officiate the tournament from November 9-13.
