Old Town Barn To Be Demolished In Lunenburg

Depending on where you stand it’s either an eyesore or an historic marker.

Either way, the Anderson Barn in Lunenburg will be torn down.

Town council made the decision at a special session last night.

Now it’s a question of when.

Lunenburg Heritage Homes applied to knock down the Old Town fixture to repair a retaining wall under Pelham Street.

Robin Joost with Lunenburg Heritage Homes knows that as a condition of the demolition permit, council must approve the design for a new structure on the site.

“You know, we’re here to do business in this town for a long time not a little time. I want it to fit the town criteria. I want it to look like it was always there – and it will.”

Mayor Rachel Bailey says part of that approval process will include public consultations as well as getting feedback from interested groups.

“When you’re dealing with the whole community – that takes time. And we have to allow that time.”

The public consultation process will be undertaken some time after the new council is elected.
