Battling and overcoming cancer is a significant challenge; Vanessa Countway is trying to do it twice.
The 31 year-old survived breast cancer four years ago.
However, months ago she learned cancer tumours returned to her lungs.
Then on September 20 she learned the tumours spread to her brain.
Now, the Chester resident is in Arizona receiving radiation and other treatment.
Natasha Countway, Vanessa’s sister, says she remains upbeat.
“She is positive, beyond positive. She has her five year-old daughter that’s always in her mind and that’s why she keeps moving forward and never gives up.”
Countway describes her sister as a strong person, a friend to all, a wonderful mother and a hard worker.
She says her sister will also have to travel to Mexico for immunotherapy, which is only in the clinical trials in Canada.
Multiple fundraisers have been setup to help Countway, who is looking at more than $300,000 in medical costs.
One benefit event is being held today at Forest Heights Community School, beginning at 3 p.m and includes a silent auction, bake sale and card game.
Other fundraisers this month include a golf tournament on October 23rd, a skate for Vanessa in Chester at October 16, a 5km run on October 11, and a dance on October 19.
You can also donate online or by visiting Scotiabank.
Countway says she can’t thank everyone enough for the love and support that the community has shown.
