Two Firefighters Injured In West Head

A lobster processing facility remains standing thanks to Shelburne County volunteer firefighters.

The blaze erupted late this morning outside of Long Point Lobster and Seafood Ltd on West Head in Clark’s Harbour.

The chief of the Island and Barrington Passage Fire Department, Dwayne Hunt, tells Acadia News, that employees were burning some trash which spread to some lobster pots then to the side of the building.

He says they knocked the fire down quickly.

“The lobster pots are a total loss. The building sustained a little bit of damage to the windows and roof area near where the pots were but other than that, the building is clear.”

Two firefighters were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The details of their injuries were not known when we spoke with Chief Hunt.

Along with Island and Barrington Passage…Wood’s Harbour/Shag Harbour and Barrington/Port Latour volunteer fire departments also attended.

This is the third fire in the area in 72 hours including a house fire that claimed a man’s life.
