Queens-Shelburne MLA Responds To Boundaries Commission Report

The MLA for Queens-Shelburne is reacting to news her riding could once again be split.

The Electoral Boundaries Commission filed their interim report, which included recommendations to restore the former boundaries of both Queens and Shelburne.

Kim Masland is pleased with the commission’s work, saying the report reflects the sentiments of many of her Shelburne constituents.

“When I ran in the campaign over a year and a half ago, door knocking in Shelburne County, that was the consistent message – ‘we want our boundary restored,’” says Masland.

She says she has worked hard to make sure all of her constituents voices are heard but she understands why they want their own riding.

“It is difficult to effectively represent a constituency that is this huge and doesn’t have that commonality in between.”

Masland didn’t say what riding she would run in, if it was split again, but noted she is from Queens.

The two constituencies were combined in 2012, with former Shelburne NDP MLA Sterling Belliveau winning the new riding in 2013.

Masland won the seat for the PCs in 2017.

The commission will hold more public consultation before presenting a final set of boundary recommendations to the province April 1.
