South Shore Bus Route Still Adjusting Schedule

Lunenburgers looking to get into the city early in the morning won’t be taking the bus.

Mike Cassidy, President of Maritime Bus says they had to drop the early morning stop in Lunenburg earlier this month.

“What we were finding is leaving Lunenburg at 6:00, into Bridgewater for twenty after six, Mahone Bay and Halifax. We weren’t getting our customers into Halifax on time.”

Cassidy says they are still making six runs a day to Halifax from Bridgewater, Lunenburg and Mahone Bay.

He says launching a bus service is a process and notes the region didn’t have a regional bus service for six years prior to September.

“And you have to have the patience. Cause it takes time to come back into an area and create that awareness or create the confidence with your customer.”

Cassidy is pleased with how ridership has grown in just four months.

He says the service averages about 20 riders per day.

Cassidy is optimistic the numbers will grow as tourists become aware they have an option to make their way from Halifax to the South Shore this summer.
