Bolivar-Getson says it’s a historic day in the municipality and she takes pride that the honour belongs to her.
“It’s a new day, a new chapter charting a new course for our municipality. I look forward to meeting with all the councillors and sitting down and hearing what they heard on the door steps.”
Claudette Garland was also chosen as deputy mayor by her fellow council members.

This is her second time serving in the position and says she looks forward to working with Bolivar-Getson.
“We have known each other for a very long time. We’ve been very direct with one another over the years and spoken our minds, didn’t always agree on things but were professional about it and moved forward.”
Two new councillors, Reid Whynot and Wade Carver, joined eight incumbents that were sworn-in today during the special meeting.
