Businesses In Bridgewater Missing Out On Pot Of Gold

The facade program in Bridgewater still has money burning a hole in its pocket. The program was established in spring to encourage King Street businesses to spruce up their exterior by offering to pay half the cost up to $5,000.

Fifty-thousand dollars was set aside by the town to help give King Street businesses a face lift. Peter Oickle, Chair of the Facade Society, says so far they’ve only given out around $2,500. “I think the main challenge has just been letting people know that the program exists. We know of 10-15 business that are interested.” Oickle suspects some of those business owners are waiting to see how well the program works for those who’ve already been approved. People can still apply once through the cold season. “I hope over the winter we’ll get a number of applications, because once the applications are in and processed, and approved the money is put aside for them. So, they could to the project in April, for example.” He says the committee is working on a marketing plan to help get the word out.
