High School Gathering Donations For Scholarship Auction

It’s that time of year again, when students start gearing up for graduation.

At Liverpool Regional High School, that means asking businesses and community members to donate big and small items for the 21st annual Scholarship Auction.

Scholarship Auction Advisor Claudine LeBlanc, says the auction allows them to give scholarships to students going to any learning institution.

“It’s based on basically merit of participation, not necessarily academic grades, so we often compile a list of students who we see as deserving,” she says.

That could mean students who are involved in lots of clubs or activities or someone who is taking a trade at a school that might not offer scholarships.

LeBlanc says Liverpool, as well as surrounding areas like Bridgewater, really get behind the auction.

She says it’s an event unique to Liverpool.

“I don’t know of another school in the province that does a scholarship fundraiser to send students off to university or post-secondary.”

Last year the scholarship auction raised $24,000 and LRHS gave out 22 scholarships.

Donations are being accepted for both the silent and live auction.

The auction takes place May 30 in the high school gym.
