Town Of Lunenburg Swears In New Council

As the US election results were starting to come in, Lunenburg was swearing in their new town council.

Mayor Rachel Bailey was first to take the oath followed by three returning and three new councilors.

First time councilor Ronnie Bachman was looking for answers in his bid for council.

“I’ve had some questions in my mind about how things were done and why they were done. So I thought the best way to find things out was to get involved.”

Bachman also says he was hoping for more diversity on council.

“”Unfortunately the only lady we have present is the mayor. It would’ve been nice to have some female content. And actually, some younger people would’ve been good as well”

This is the first time on council for Brian Davis and he hopes this council will be more streamlined than the last.

“If they stuck to a more formal rules of procedure things would go quicker and more efficient.”

He looks forward to working at the grass roots.

“Council meetings, really, should be about endorsing what you do in committee. It’s the committee that is the heart and soul of municipal government.”

Joseph Carnevale is also a first time councilor.

He’s looking for more openess from council.

“I plan to, at least, one hour a week, open my doors and people can come and bring the issues.”

Carnevale wants a seniors ombudsman to help address their issues.

“I think there’s a process the town can have where somebody goes out and directs them to the proper agency. I know that there is a seniors program in Bridgewater.”

The three newbies are looking forward to working with returning councilors Danny Croft, John McGee and Peter Mosher.

And all councilors are eager to get to work for Lunenburg.
