The LaHave Ferry will be out of service for the next few days.
According to a representative from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal the Scotian Ferry was shut down at noon today to begin the process of removing it from the cable.
It will be replaced by the Brady Himmelman which has been drydocked since the fall for regular inspections and maintenance work.
Transport Canada requires this type of ferry to be drydocked once every eight years.
The hull and mechanical equipment have been inspected and riders will notice a shiny new coat of paint once the Brady Himmelman returns.
The process is weather dependent and is expected to take several days.
