One in 10 of us are left-handed – and there are a few unexplained benefits. In sports where you’re facing a human opponent like baseball, tennis and boxing you might have the edge because you get to practise against righties. Lefties are slightly better at creative endeavours especially those involving rhythm and visualization. And it appears that lefties recover faster from strokes possibly due to lefties strengthening both sides of their brain while living and coping with a right handed world.
But what are the biggest difficulties you face as a left hander?
Here’s what you had to say:
Julie Huskins Nauss When I was a child, trying to use normal scissors and had to buy the green leftie scissors (which I still have). And writing with a pen isn’t easy, as my hand easily smudges the ink as I write..and I’m a writer, lol! But I’m definitely creative, I’m an artist and a writer
Avan Joudrey I am left handed but do the odd few things with right hand like play guitar and use the computer. I couldnt use a baseball glove because i couldn’t catch or throw with my right, so glove on left to catch then off quick to throw. And that’s my story!
Sandra Challis I’m a lefty, the only one in my family! Always struggled with knitting, sewing etc as no-one could ever show me the right way to do things. My husband almost passes out when he sees me cutting bread! Apparently we’re artistic…not a hope in hell!
