A local municipality is in the running to be Canada’s Most Active Community.
Barrington is among 30 places across the country listed as a finalist in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge.
The first ever event was held between May 31 and June 16.
People had to track the minutes they exercised or were physically active and log them into an app on their phone.
Now, it is up to the municipality to provide written and photographic evidence why they deserve to be the national winner.
Barrington CAO Chris Frotten feels they’ve already won.
“It’s exciting to be named one of the finalists and have an opportunity to submit a form and a chance at both the $150,000 grand prize, but also the five additional $20,000 prizes.”
The cash prizes would support physical activity opportunities in the community.
Frotten says people deserve credit for getting on board.
“We had a lot of different activities and people participating. They were getting motivated which ended up with us being first in Nova Scotia and third in the Atlantic region for the amount of minutes we were active during the time period.”
The only other Nova Scotia community announced as a finalist is Amherst.
National and regional winners will be named on June 27.
