The recent warm weather has some Liverpool residents holding their noses.
A smell has been noticed around the Bristol Avenue, Sandy Cove Road area near the wastewater treatment facility.
Region of Queens Mayor David Dagley says staff have yet to identify the cause.
“You will pick up methane gas as temperature changes and it goes from winter to spring to summer, depending upon the sunshine and the rain. It’s an issue that we’re monitoring, but we can’t put our finger on any definitive cause at this point.
Dagley says staff have looked into the equipment and everything is operating as it should.
“If it persists for much longer we definitely will have to look deeper and we certainly do not want a smell within the community. It will lead us to go into different efforts, perhaps, not on our property.”
Dagley says aerated lagoons used by the treatment plant are next to a swamp and tidal coastline.
He says that makes it difficult to pinpoint the source of the smell but staff are continuing to investigate.
