The mayor of the Region of Queens is thanking volunteer firefighters for their efforts during a weekend fire at their landfill.
Greenfield and District Volunteer Fire Department were first on scene early Sunday morning.
In all, 14 volunteer fire departments from Lunenburg, Queens, Annapolis and Shelburne counties responded or served as standby at fire stations involved.
David Dagley says firefighters prompt response knocked the fire down quickly.
He adds, Region of Queens council, staff and residents appreciate the work by community volunteers from Queens and neighbouring counties.
Dagley says their hard work ensures safe communities.
