Feds Approve Regulations For New Cannabis Products

While the federal government says it could be mid-December before cannabis edibles, extracts and topicals are available, Nova Scotians might have to wait longer.

Health Canada finalized regulations last Friday for the production and sale of the products.

NSLC spokesperson Beverley Ware says they must first develop a business plan, which requires government approval.

“It’s too soon at this stage to tell what products may be available and when they may be available. The licensed producers have a lot of work ahead of them in terms of developing packaging and developing the products to meet federal regulations.”

Ware says while the preliminary work has begun, extracts, edibles and topicals may not be in NSLC cannabis stores on the legalization date which is October 17.

Be careful when eating or drinking #cannabis. Effects can be felt within 30 minutes but it can take up to 4 hours to feel the full effects. Consuming more within this time period can lead to adverse effects. https://t.co/8fesPMLGcY pic.twitter.com/sUg3y6nfN9
