Bridgewater: Outdoor Pool Delayed Opening Until July 8

People will have to wait a little longer than usual to enjoy the waves in Bridgewater’s outdoor pool.

The town has been working since May on upgrades and renovations ahead of the July 1 opening.

However, the O’Regan’s Subaru Outdoor Swimming Pool won’t open until July 8 due to recent wet weather and a few items needing extra attention.

Mayor David Mitchell says the pool was painted a few years ago and it has been peeling.

“So, that didn’t last very long and it was getting into the skimmer baskets and getting into other places in the pool. People were coming out of the pool with paint stuck to them,” says Mitchell.

“We did a sandblasting of the entire pool and added a proper epoxy-like paint that should last well over a decade.”

That is being fixed as well as replacing the exterior ramp, solar panels on the roof and sealing cracks in the pool.

All regular and public swims, and lessons will begin once the outdoor pool opens.

Recreation Director Diana Johnson says $115,000 was approved from the town’s capital budget for renovations.

The town has applied to the provincial government to cover a third of the cost.
