Smoke Causes Evacuation of MODL Administration Building

Staff at the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg administration building had to evacuate this morning due to smoke in the council chambers.

Firefighters from Bridgewater responded to the call around 10:30 a.m.

Fire Chief Michael Nauss says they investigated the building and found the cause.

“We went on the roof to the air handling unit and opened up the panel and the motor for the air handling unit caught fire and moved some smoke into the building.”

Power was shutoff to the air handling unit and smoke was cleared out of the building.

Staff were outside for roughly 45 minutes before they were able to go back to work.

The air handling unit was expected to be repaired immediately.

There were no injuries.
