Lunenburg Municipal CAO Retiring

Kevin Malloy jokingly admits he may not have taken the job as CAO of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg if he knew he would attend 216 council meetings.

But, after four and a half years, Malloy is calling it a career.

Malloy worked for the provincial government for 30 years before taking the role with the municipality in 2015.

He says the process of bringing the LaHave River clean-up to a reality is something he’ll always remember.

“I think it will have a lasting impact on the community, one that has been talked about for a lot of years. Even though we had to work for the better part of two-plus years with the federal government to get an agreement, it’s well worthwhile. It will change the lives of people who use that river forever.”

Malloy says he plans to spend retirement with family and traveling.

“I’ve got three gorgeous granddaughters who won’t want to spend too much more time with me; they are two, six and eight now. Travel has always been a big priority of ours and we simply haven’t had time to do it.”

Malloy says the municipality is well-positioned for the future financially and for key initiatives like high-speed internet.

Alex Dumaresq has been appointed Acting Chief Administrative Officer until a new CAO is hired.
