The trial of former Bridgewater Police Chief John Collyer got underway today.
Collyer is charged with sexual assault and two charges of sexual exploitation in relation to a 17 year-old girl.
The youth’s identity is being protected under a publication ban.
The alleged offences are believed to have occurred between April 1 and July 31, 2016.
Following an investigation, Collyer was placed on administrative leave, then suspended after charges were laid in May of 2017.
The town cut ties with Collyer in August 2018.
The trial is scheduled to run through Thursday this week in Bridgewater Supreme Court.
