Liverpool: Work Starts To Fix Trestle Trail Bridge

It’s welcome news for residents of Queens County.

Work to repair the Trestle Trail Bridge has begun.

The structure in Liverpool has been closed since 2014, after an engineer’s report found severe deterioration in the bridges piers, walls and abutments.

The Queens Rails to Trails Association are managing the repairs to the bridge.

President Brian Hatt says it been a long time coming.

“It’s a really well used trail for the locals and the connection between Halifax and Yarmouth is really valuable to the business people and motorized group around the province.”

Phase one of the project will see repairs made to the abutment on the Main Street end of the bridge, and the first pier at the North East end.

The work is being completed by J. MASON Contractors Ltd. from Fall River and is scheduled to be finished by September.

The association received funding for repairs through the J & W Murphy Foundation, the provincial government and the Region of Queens Municipality.

Hatt says it’s great to see work underway.

“It has taken awhile, but as long as we’re moving forward our group is very pleased.”

Once complete, the bridge will be open to all types of transportation including walkers, bicycles and ATVs.
