People continue to weigh-in on a sidewalk patio on King Street in Bridgewater.
Several people expressed their concern on Facebook about King Street Beer Company’s outdoor seating area that eliminated two parking spaces.
Mayor David Mitchell says the business applied to have the designated area and was permitted under the town’s bylaw, which was changed roughly two years ago.
He says people aren’t always going to be able to park directly in front of businesses.
“If you go to Mahone Bay, chances are you’re not parking in front of the business you’re going into. It goes the same with Lunenburg and certainly in Halifax. There should not be a different standard for Bridgewater. You may have to walk a few extra feet, but the goal is you walk a few extra feet down a very lively King Street.”
Lanna Thai was the first business to request outdoor seating on the sidewalk and was approved to do so, but fire forced their location to close.
Mitchell says he hopes King Street Beer Company isn’t the last business to take advantage of outdoor seating.
The Town issued a statement Tuesday as well.
