New Exhibit To Showcase Unique Local Art At DesBrisay Museum

A new exhibit at the DesBrisay Museum will have visitors looking at life in squares.

The Square Show is a new art exhibit that will showcase unique pieces by local artists created around an eight by eight inch square base size restriction.

“So far, we do have a few pieces that were already dropped off, and we have some acrylic painting and some photography so far,” said Angelika Oickle, programs and exhibits officer for the museum.

“We even have a few artists collaborating together and doing some sculpting, so it is really whatever the artist chooses to do.”

The idea of the show came after hearing of a similar exhibit hosted in Mahone Bay, and the museum decided to host their own art show featuring South Shore artists in an effort to bring more community engagement to the museum.

The unique style and size restriction of the show has grabbed a lot of attention from both artists and visitors alike.

“Squares are so universal. Everyone can relate to a square and loves the symmetry of them, so we thought it would be a great way to bring some new people and fresh ideas into our museum,” said Oickle.

The exhibit will open to the public on August 3 and run until September 7. There will be a reception held at the museum on August 15 for anyone interested in viewing or buying the pieces showcased in the show.
