A program is helping kids in Shelburne County participate in activities their families might not be able to afford.
The Kids Fair Play FUNd has been running since 1998.
It helps cover registration or equipment costs for kids between the ages of four and 18.
Director of Recreation in the Municipality of Shelburne, Adam Dedrick, says people don’t need to provide proof of income when applying.
“We ask for what’s called an endorser. Someone has to sign off to say this child or family is in need. Sometimes we have people on the committee that may know certain groups that are aware of who these children are or who their parents are and know their situation.”
Dedrick says it doesn’t have to be for sports, but also cultural or recreational activities.
Each municipal unit in Shelburne contributes money to the fund and donations are also accepted.
The FUNd has helped more than 2,400 children.
