Work Planned For Trestle Trail in Lockeport

Lockeport’s Trestle Trail could be reopening after a planned revamped this year.

After closing in 2017, the town of Lockeport is upgrading the trail to meet safety standards with financial help from the province.

Mayor George Harding says the town had to close the trail due to safety concerns, leaving the future of the trail unknown for the last few years.

“We had to close it due to sea level rise and storm surges and the public were very concerned. They value this walking trail and it is a beautiful trail.”

Harding says the project will cost around $150,000, and will not come at the cost of raising taxes for residents.

He says the trail is an important part of the town.

“We had a public meeting a few weeks ago and had lots of input from our public. It’s a go ahead and we’re very pleased about that.”

Harding says work will hopefully be underway soon, and is aiming to wrap up the project before winter.
