Petite Riviere residents are getting a small break on their fire tax rate.
The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg recently approved the rates for 2019-20.
The Petite Riviere Fire Department lowered their rate to 17 cents per $100 of assessment.
Fire Chief George Hilchie says the department raised its rate to 20 cents in 2017-18 to help cover the cost of a $600,000 fire truck.
It dropped by a penny last year.
The only other fire departments lowering their rate this year in the municipality are Blockhouse and Hebbville, each by less than three tenths of a cent.
People in Martins River face a three cent increase to their fire rate from last year.
The rate will be 20 cents per $100 of assessment as the department prepares to purchase a new truck.
Nine communities will see fire tax rates changing this year.
