Municipality Of Chester To Help Pay Homage To Former Educator

Chester is supporting the legacy of a former educator in the municipality.

Warden Allen Webber says the Municipality of Chester will contribute $500 to help the Mahone Bay Centre name its bell tower and library after C. Joseph Feeney.

Feeney served on Mahone Bay town council for over three decades including 26 as its mayor and Webber says Feeney had a close connection to the municipality through the education system.

“He was the Principal of Chester High School when I went there, and he was also the first principal at Forest Heights Community school,” said Webber.

“It was an easy decision for council to make to show our support and recognition for what he’s contributed to the community.”

Webber also says Feeney had a lasting impact.

“He’s helped to build bridges, and helped us to cooperate and work together as councils across Lunenburg County,” he said.

“He’s always been effective at that, and wanted us to cooperate. He did what he could to make sure that took place.”

Feeney passed in 2017.

The centre is hoping to raise $25,000 to upgrade and improve the facility and provide the tribute for Feeney.

To date, more than $14,000 has been raised.
