Hockey Gear Up For Grabs Ahead Of Season

It’s almost time for aspiring NHLers to get back on the ice.

With that in mind, the United Way of Lunenburg County has once again launched their used hockey equipment exchange.

Families can bring in any equipment they may no longer be using and pick up what they need.

Coordinator Michael Graves says everyone knows hockey can be an expensive sport.

“It’s open to everybody, although we kind of advertise it through Pro-Kids and minor league hockey [for] people who might be struggling a little bit.”

Graves says they want to get the equipment that is collecting dust in the back of a closet and put it to good use.

“The stuff that really don’t know what to do with it, but they know it has value. We want to re-purpose it and give a kid a chance to get back in the game.”

Graves says the United Way is working to remove barriers to participating in sport.

The exchange is underway now.

Tables will be laid out with equipment at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre today, tomorrow and Thursday.
