The Canadian National Women’s Team Fall Festival will take place at Queens Place Emera Centre September 9-15.

Practices for the ten time world champions at the development and evaluation camp will be open to the public.

And tickets will be sold to see the women play two intersquad games and two games against local junior all-stars.

National Team member Jillian Saulnier was at the announcement and was surprised by the turnout.

“Yeah, this is incredible. I should’ve known good Nova Scotia hospitality was going to be nothing short of fabulous. It’s great to see all the faces, the excitement. That we want to see around this championship.”

National Hockey Team member Jillian Saulnier talks with local hockey players at Queens Place.

Mayor of the Region of Queens David Dagley says the event is the opportunity of a lifetime for young hockey players.

“It’s a very great opportunity for young women in Queens and the South Shore to get exposure to world-class women’s hockey.”

Dagley says the community came out to support the world junior curling championships in February and he expects to see the same enthusiasm for this event.

The camp will take place ahead of the 2020 IIHF Women’s World Championship being held in Halifax and Truro beginning in March.

Asked if this event could lead to Liverpool hosting an event tied to that championship, Region of Queens Manager of Events Steve Burns says, “We’re always on the hunt. We’re looking at all opportunities that are out there.”

For now, Burns says he’s looking forward to the great showcase in September.
