An early morning fire caused extensive damage to a historic general store in Petite Riviere, displacing a tenant living above the store.
Around 2 am this morning, the Petite Riviere Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Petite Riviere General Store on Highway 331. The fire started near a generator that had been running due to a power outage caused by Hurricane Dorian the day before.
The Canadian Red Cross is assisting a woman who had been living in an apartment above the store was living above the store and was displaced. She and another adult who had been inside at the time of the fire escaped without injury.
Petite Riviere Fire Department was assisted on scene by over half a dozen other departments, including LaHave, Pleasantville, Conquerall Bank, Hebbville, Italy Cross, United Communities, and Bridgewater.
While the fire started around the generator, the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
