So Is This Going To Be Normal?

Remember all the rain back in the spring? Didn’t seem like it was going to stop. It was wet and cool right into July. Then, all of a sudden, it was summer.

As long as that weather warmed up, that was a good thing. But because of the cooler weather in June I was late getting things planted. Now I have a whole lot of tomatoes that seem to be refusing to turn red. Looks like there might be a big batch of chow-chow in my future, which is okay. Not ideal, but okay.

The one thing that didn’t really occur to me until just recently was cranberries. The water was high at about the time their flowers would be coming out. I can remember thinking at the time that we needed to outfit bees with scuba gear so they could get to the cranberry flowers, but bees have enough problems without having to face that. Now, I have noticed something else. Very few cranberries, at least where I normally go. All that rain kept the plants under water, not able to flower and therefore not able to produce fruit.

Thankfully, I can buy cranberries. But I’ll miss spending quality time in a swamp this fall.
