Weird Food Combos – There Are No Wrong Answers

I’ve noticed a trend with both the “foodie” websites and the larger snack and fast food outlets lately. They’re trying out all kinds of interesting and strange food combinations. From the KFC fried chicken sandwich where the bun is replaced with glazed donuts to the many, many pickle infused desserts and meals it seems like nothing is off limits these days.

And that’s a good thing. Having fun combining never before combined foods should be a non-judgmental zone when there seems to so much judging and polarized positions in the rest of life!

Here are a few odd combinations that many people swear by – popcorn & hot sauce, balsamic vinegar and strawberries, cream cheese on honey nut Cheerios, peanut butter and goat cheese, grilled pineapple and Tabasco sauce.

And here are my two personal favourites, both discovered many years ago by accident. One Christmas I was diving into one of those cheap boxes of cherry chocolates that everyone gets at that time of year while drinking a beer. Bite of cherry chocolate, swig of beer. Heaven! They just go together , unnaturally!

The other was invented by an old friend who I think accidentally spilled some malt vinegar on some fried onions and plopped the whole mess on top of an open face fried egg sandwich. Truly delicious even though it shouldn’t be! (Note: the bread should be homemade and untoasted and there should be lots and lots of onions in limp ring form)

If you have invented or discovered an odd food combo that you really enjoy, share it with our listeners on our Facebook page Thursday evening or Friday morning!
