A listener sent an email with this dilemma:
I’ve stumbled upon what could be a devastating secret that could affect my son’s marriage. He gave my wife and I his wife’s old tablet when he bought her a new one last month. I was busy setting up new email, passwords and accounts when I discovered there were several accounts on the tablet still with passwords….to adult dating sites. This wouldn’t be a problem except the tablet is 3 years old and they’ve been married for 4 and a half years.
I know that in this digital age having an account on an adult dating site doesn’t necessarily equal infidelity. But I don’t know what to do with this information. I can’t decide whether to share this with my wife, or ask my son about it or just keep it to myself. There is no way I am close enough to my daughter in law to talk to her about it. I’m pretty sure I could find out more about any online activity if I wanted to, but I’m also leaning towards completely wiping the tablet and never knowing any more than the fact that she once had accounts on adult dating sites. What should I do? Am I a terrible parent if I just wipe the tablet?
