A listener wrote us with this dilemma:
I’ve been happily married for almost 20 years but my husband, who’s a few years older than me, was briefly married twice before we met. No children from them, but I only knew about one of them until just recently when I found out about a second marriage just before we met.
He talks all the time about the many things he’s done in his life before he met me, but never talks about his previous marriages. When I tried to ask him questions about the marriages he said “It’s in the past and going to stay there!”
I’m feeling a bit hurt that after 19 years of marriage he can’t or won’t talk about it with me. Now I’m even more curious about why and who he was married to twice before. Should I just accept that I’ll never know?
